Ryan Hovind

Hey, I'm Ryan.

I have a passion for discovery—and I love designing digital learning experiences that make complex information clear, engaging, and easy to apply.

I’m an Instructional Designer with 10+ years of experience. I create asynchronous eLearning that helps professionals feel confident translating new skills into real-world results.

How It Began

My ID career began in higher education, where I worked as an Instructional Lab Technician and adjunct instructor in Media Arts.

For more than eight years, I supported students and faculty by designing curriculum, developing training materials, and integrating instructional technologies into the classroom.

Whether I was building tutorials, supporting courses, or creating learning resources, my focus was always the same: make learning accessible, visual, and practical.

How It Evolved

My career has evolved from higher education to specialized contract work, focusing on asynchronous media and curriculum design. My portfolio now spans a $16 million grant-funded workforce initiative and translating complex climate data for NASA JPL.

As an Instructional Designer, I build corporate and nonprofit training initiatives, workforce programs, and large-scale onboarding efforts through self-paced courses, interactive job aids, and multimedia microlearning content.

And now I’m pushing my skillset further, integrating AI-enabled learning solutions using HeyGen avatars, voice cloning, and intelligent learning tools.

Design Philosophy

I design learning experiences by starting with the learner and ending with measurable results.

Behavior Over Content

I focus on where learners are, what they need to do, and what success looks like in their role to ensure training solves a real performance gap.

The Empowerment Loop

Effective learning balances clarity, engagement, and usability. When learners stay motivated, behaviors change with on-the-job impact, which means less support friction and more proficiency.

My Approach

My approach to learning design is tool-agnostic and performance-driven. I leverage a full-stack toolkit—from high-end multimedia production to complex branching logic—to close data gaps, reduce organizational friction, and empower learners.

My background in media production strengthens my instructional work, allowing me to create clear, engaging digital training that scales.

My View on Life

Outside of work, I’m a proud dad and happily married to my high school sweetheart, MéLisa.

We love exploring new places together—whether hiking near home or filming lighthearted content while we travel.

I bring that same human-centered energy to my work. When training feels human, it doesn’t just inform—it transforms. Let’s collaborate and empower your team to do their best work.
